42 Perfect Bible Verses for Father’s Day (& Other Occasions)

A father has a significant role in the family. From being a breadwinner to being an instructor, discipliner (alongside mothers), and role model, a father can never be forgotten. A father invests a lot in his children, shapes their lives, loves them, and guides them on how they should walk. Gifting a father with Bible verses for Father’s Day, a card, or anything will remind him that his efforts were not in vain.

Alternatively, you can take your dad out this coming Father’s Day, especially if he hardly had enough money to take you out when you were young. Still, you can make a DIY gift card and print Bible verses there.

At the end of the day, what counts is sending him a message of love and blessings for his excellent work.

So, which are these verses?

Love-Bible Verses for Father’s Day

A father’s love can be manifested in many ways, for example, by disciplining a child, carrying a child when taking a walk or traveling, risking life on behalf of the child, and much more. So, if your father did any of these or more to demonstrate his love towards you, it’s time to get the best father’s gift and share it with him.

Definitely, there’s no better gift than Bible verses for Father’s Day. The word of God comforts, blesses, encourages, restores, builds, and corrects.

Hence, as much as you may also have other gift ideas for June’s Father’s Day, nothing can surpass sharing the good news of our Lord Jesus Christ.

So, send him a Bible verse to remind him of those days when he carried you on his shoulders to give you a better view of the world.

Deuteronomy 1:31

“There you saw how the Lord your God carried you, as a father carries his son, all the way you went until you reached this place.”

Yes, remind him that small things matter and that you still appreciate his tender love. Let him know that you’re what you’re today because of his disciplinary acts.

2 Samuel 7:14-15  NLT

I will be his father, and he will be my son. If he sins, I will correct and discipline him with the rod, like any father would do.

Indeed, like our heavenly Father is towards us, fathers never stop loving us despite the evil we do. When they discipline, they do so with tender love.

Also, don’t forget to recognize the risks he took to ensure that your safety was not compromised. Just like the heavenly Father gave his son for us so that we could not die, so do fathers lay their lives down for the children's sake.

John 3:16-17

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”

Who is like a father? Like a lion, he roars to protect his children from any harm!

Let him know his love didn't go unnoticed regardless of whether he is your biological father or a father figure. Instead, it inspired you to become a better person.

Bible Verses for Fathers To Reconcile With Their Children

Do you know any father who has been distanced from his children due to their drinking habits or bad character?

How about you share these Bible verses for Father’s Day with them and help them to reconcile with their loved ones?

The Bible encourages fathers to reconcile with their sons and daughters without having to punish them or interrogate them. Yes, when a lost child sees his father’s steadfast love despite all the mistakes he has made can make him turn away from evil forever.

 Luke 15:20

“So he got up and went to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.”

Therefore, this coming Father’s Day, send a message of reconciliation to a father separated from his kids.

Malachi 4:6

“He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers.”

No single father, even worse, wants to be separated from their kids. Sadly, things happen, and loving fathers are separated from their lovely kids.

The word of God says that if fathers and children do not reconcile, the land will be destroyed.

So, remind every father that this is the season to show compassion for his kids regardless of their character or attitude.

Psalm 103:13

“As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him.”

Fathers Are Role Models

Every father or figure father is a role model to his children despite their age. A child is likely to become corrupt if his father is corrupt and just if his father is just.

Therefore, the best Father’s Day gift would be a Bible verse to encourage him to lead a blameless life so that he can be counted as righteous and that his children may be blessed.

Proverbs 20:7

“The righteous lead blameless lives; blessed are their children after them.”

When children are blessed, every parent feels contented and peaceful. Consequently, he lives a longer life.

Additionally, share with him Bible verses for Father’s Day that encourages fearing the Lord. Why? He is a role model. Therefore, whatever he does, his children will also do, and the whole family will reap the consequences.

So, a wise and God-fearing father will walk with integrity.

Proverbs 14:26 ESV

“The righteous who walks in his integrity— blessed are his children after him!”

Such a man’s children emulate him, and they’re blessed in all they do. What an awesome family such is; the Lord delights in it!

Also, a God-fearing father teaches his children God’s word so they can obey it from a tender age and not depart from it when they're old.

Another encouraging Bible verse for Father’s Day would be Joshua 24:15, which reminds him to serve the Lord with his family.

“…But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

Serving the Lord as a family has many rewards from God, for example, victory against the enemies, protection from evil, provisions, and long life, among others.

Regardless of age, every father has a father or father figure, too. Therefore, this Father’s Day, share a Bible verse with a father to encourage him to obey and listen to his father’s wise instructions, too.

Proverbs 23:22

“Listen to your father, who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old.”

Better still, remind him to visit his elderly father together with his children. Such acts would go a long way, and his children would do the same to him in his old age.

God Commands Fathers To Instruct and Discipline Children

Children are like talents a master gave his servants before he left. He later came back to settle accounts with each servant.

Matthew 25: 14-15

“For it is just like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted them with his possessions. To one he gave five talents,b to another two talents, and to another one talent—each according to his own ability. And he went on his journey.”

God has rewarded you with kids according to your ability.

Psalms 127:3

“Children are a heritage from the LORD, offspring a reward from him.”

Since children belong to God and you’re their custodian, you’ll give an account on the day of Judgement. So, taking care of children and meeting their needs is your responsibility.

Sharing a Bible verse with a father to remind him of his divine duty of taking good care of his kids is helpful.

Let him also know that a father’s wise words stop a child from getting involved in corrupt deals that would lead to death or imprisonment.

 Proverbs 23:24

“The father of a righteous child has great joy; a man who fathers a wise son rejoices in him.

So, God expects a father to treat his children with love, not mistreat or provoke them to anger. Instead, he should use Bible verses and rely on the guidance of the Holy Spirit to lead the kids in the ways of the Lord.

Ephesians 6:4

“Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.”

Disciplining and instructing kids in love leads to a good relationship between a father and the children, which provokes God to release his blessings.

Psalms 133:1-3 BSB

“Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony! It is like fine oil on the head, running down on the beard, running down Aaron’s beard over the collar of his robes. It is like the dew of Hermon falling on the mountains of Zion. For there the LORD has bestowed the blessing of life forevermore.”

Children brought up in such a home are a pure joy and crown to the father.

3 John 1:4: “It is the greatest joy of my life to hear that my children are consistently living their lives in the ways of truth.”

So, right when they’re small, teach children how they should go so they walk in it all their days.

Proverbs 22:6

“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.”

So, whatever a father does together with his kids, let it be an opportunity to share the word of God with the children. They’ll pass the same ordinances to their children.

Deuteronomy 6:6-9

These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

What Is the Meaning of Father's Day in the Bible

Dating back to June 19, 1910, Father’s Day was first celebrated in Washington. Sonora Smart Dodd started Father’s Day several years after Mother’s Day started.

After Mrs. William died during childbirth, William played the role of a father and mother while doing his farm duties. Sonora saw her father's struggles and was impressed and indebted to him. Hence, wanted to recognize his efforts.

So, after hearing preaching in the Methodist Episcopal Church, which recognized the start of mothers’ Day, Sonora wanted to recognize her loving and hardworking father, too.

Consequently, she talked to the Spokane Ministerial Alliance about it. They agreed that June 5th, her Father’s birthday, would be the day of recognizing his selfless love.

Since then, the third Sunday of June has been a day of recognizing every father. It can be a grandpa, an uncle, a father figure, a biological father, or even a single mom who plays the role of a father without neglecting her motherly duties!

So, as Sonora wanted to prove, the meaning of Father’s Day in the Bible is to recognize every father (and father figure) for his love, hard work, protection, and provision for his children.

Therefore, this June, you need to get ready with Bible verses for Father’s Day and recognize that father who has not abandoned his children but has protected, loved, and cared for them.

What Bible Verses Are About Honoring a Father

Many blessings follow a child because of honoring the father that begot them. Some of these blessings include long life, prosperity, and success in everything they do.

Therefore, whether your father is blind, deaf, lame, literate, a drunkard, a drug addict, an atheist, a believer in Christ, illiterate, poor, or rich, you must honor him. It’s God’s command with no conditions.

Here are several encouraging Bible verses about honoring a father.

Ephesians 6:1-3

“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.”

Colossians 3:20

“Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.”

Matthew 15:4

“For God commanded, “Honor your father and your mother,” and, “Whoever reviles father or mother must surely die.”’

Proverbs 15:20

“A wise son makes a glad father, but a foolish man despises his mother.”

Proverbs 6:20

“My son, keep your father's commandment, and forsake not your mother's teaching.”

Deuteronomy 5:16

“Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God commanded you, that your days may be long, and that it may go well with you in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.”

Proverbs 13:1

“A wise son hears his father's instruction, but a scoffer does not listen to rebuke.”

Mark 7:9-13

“And he said to them, “You have a fine way of rejecting the commandment of God in order to establish your tradition! For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, ‘Whoever reviles father or mother must surely die.’ But you say, ‘If a man tells his father or his mother, “Whatever you would have gained from me is Corban”’ (that is, given to God)— then you no longer permit him to do anything for his father or mother, thus making void the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And many such things you do.”’

Bible Verse for How Great Is the Father's Love

Fathers can do anything to protect and save their children. Whether it’s a child drowning or trapped in a car accident or a burning house, a father will never stand to watch without doing anything to save the kid’s life. They would rather die while trying but not merely staring.

Their love for their kids is extraordinary. God created us in his image and likeness. Like God gave his only begotten son to save the perishing world, fathers lay their lives down for their loved ones.

Therefore, a perfect Bible verse for how great a father’s love is should be John 3:16 “For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”

What Is a Powerful Prayer for Father’s Day

A powerful prayer for Father’s Day is, “Our Father who is in heaven, thank you because of my father. Thank you for giving me such a loving, protective, and caring father. I am not an orphan; neither am I in lack because you blessed me with a father (figure). May your Holy name be glorified today and forever more.”

“Now, Lord, I ask that you watch over him all the days of his life. Grant him more wisdom and understanding so he can lead and counsel us according to your will. Bless the work of his hands so that he can have enough for us, others, and your work. May long life be his portion in Jesus’ name. Amen.”

Closing Thoughts

This year’s Father’s Day is drawing near, and you need a perfect gift for a father (figure) you love. It must not be your father; it can also be a colleague at work, your uncles, cousins, teachers, brothers in the church, or pastors, among others.

I’ve shared enough encouraging Bible verses for Father’s Day that would be a perfect gift for them this June. You can also buy other great father’s gifts, for example, flowers, hats, a Bible, a dog, a raincoat, etc.

The most critical thing is to make them feel loved, treasured, and appreciated for all they did. They deserve the best regardless of their age or status.
