How To Be a Good Christian Wife: Tips for a Better Marriage

Are you a married Christian woman looking for ways to become a better wife? You're in the right place. Here at Motherhood Truth, this is precisely what we strive to be: wives (and mothers) dedicated to overcoming our shortfalls on a journey to honoring and serving God, our husbands, our households, and our communities. In this article, you'll read valuable information on how to be a good Christian wife, advice on forming a strong relationship with your husband, and serving God through matrimony. Let scripture help guide you while learning practical advice on being the best wife you can be, according to God's design.

Understanding the Role of a Christian Wife in Spiritual Marriage

Being a good Christian wife is not just about having strong faith in the Lord. It means understanding and living out what it truly means to be a dedicated, faithful, Godly woman of Christ’s church. As such, this often entails being an example for your husband, showing him how to guide your family while also displaying humility and patience as you direct yourself according to God’s will for our lives – two components that are absolutely essential when striving to strengthen your faith and connection to God!

So ask yourself:

  • Am I doing my best to show love, compassion, and kindness?
  • Do I remain humble yet still firm in obeying divine instruction from above?

As Ephesians 5:22-23 suggests, a good wife should not take it upon herself to control her husband. Instead, she should tend to her husband's needs and support her husband in leading the family.

22 Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the assembly, being himself the savior of the body.

Ephesians 5:22-23 (WEB)

As a great wife, you should accept her husband's leadership willingly and peaceably within the relationship. Always speak kindly and respectfully towards him and follow his appropriate instructions. But what exactly does this look like? How can you make sure your actions fit with biblical teaching? Ultimately, it takes time to get used to living out these commands daily – but it is certainly possible!

For man is not from woman, but woman from man; for man wasn’t created for the woman, but woman for the man.

1 Corinthians 11:8-9 (WEB)

In addition to submitting herself to her husband, a Christian wife must also provide spiritual support for him inside and outside their home life. This could involve going to church together or praying with him regularly so he can stay firm in God’s will for his life. The Bible further states that wives are responsible for assisting “their own husbands in every way” (Titus 2:4).

that they may train the young wives to love their husbands, to love their children,

Titus 2:4

How often do we make time from our busy lives to pray with the most important person? Do we regularly participate in activities that encourage us spiritually regarding our spouses? We should remember what’s written – be there physically and emotionally, too!

Being a good Christian wife requires humility and putting others before yourself. This kind of selflessness is something Jesus taught us during His time on earth, whether through his service to the people or by forgiving those who have wronged you so that no old grudges are weighing down your life (Matthew 6:14-15).

8 For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you don’t forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

 Matthew 6:14-15 (WEB)

Being supportive towards your husband could mean doing little things like offering emotional support when he needs it and being physically present in moments where he might need unconditional love – both difficult and joyous.

Characteristics of a Godly Wife

As a Christian wife, there are some fundamental principles for living as a godly one. Above all else, it is vital to remember that your marriage signifies an agreement between you and God; therefore, it should be handled with the utmost reverence and caution. Every day, devote yourself to loving your spouse wholly devotedly regardless of challenging conditions – this must come before anything else. It’s also essential to appeal unto God when making any marriage-related decisions throughout life – what better source of direction could anyone have?

Pray Together

Praying together as a couple can be a compelling way to bring spouses closer, strengthening their bond and increasing their trust in one another. Going beyond just faith in God’s plan for marriage, it’s also important to consider how we live out our marriages according to scripture – like through submission of wives unto husbands (Ephesians 5:22). Submitting with respect communicates love and acceptance that strengthens relationships. So why not take time each day or week to pray together? Doing so has been life-changing for my husband and me.

22 Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord.

Ephesians 5:22

Be Submissive

Living as a submissive wife doesn’t mean being weak or being a doormat; it simply means honoring your spouse with your words and actions – even if you don’t see eye-to-eye on some issues – and humbly putting their needs before yours. Furthermore, setting healthy boundaries is vital to protect yourself from abuse or mistreatment. It’s also essential to build trust between each other by communicating openly.

That doesn’t mean wives should do whatever they want without consequence. They need to be aware of when enough is enough so that way, if necessary, they can stand up for themselves while still honoring their husbands (Colossians 3:18-19). Setting these boundaries will help with positive communication within the relationship, leading couples closer spiritually instead of further apart due to arguments or disagreements resulting from unhealthy boundaries being crossed by either side.

18 Wives, be in subjection to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. 19 Husbands, love your wives, and don’t be bitter against them.

Colossians 3:18-19 (WEB)

Changing my own behaviors as a wife was difficult (before marriage, I was ultra-independent). But through marriage and seeking to improve my relationship with God continually, I realized how much marriage can teach us the love of God. When submitting to God's way and fully understanding the institution of marriage, I realized God's perfect plan. Focusing on that and asking the Holy Spirit to soften my heart, I began serving my husband better, paying better attention to his emotional needs, which improved our friendship and intimate relationship (huge win!).

Discuss Scripture Together

Finally, one more crucial principle for living as a godly wife is placing importance on getting closer spiritually by regularly reading scriptures together (Matthew 18:20). Even if either partner didn’t get the chance to do individual prayer during their day before that, praying together helps couples stay connected in prayers when life gets busy with work, family needs, and other duties like church activities and civic responsibilities, etc.

For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there I am in the middle of them.”

Matthew 18:20

It's a powerful thought to realize praying with your husband further invites God into the center of your relationship. And to dedicate time together in this capacity will only serve to strengthen your bond with your husband and God. The perfect activity for regular at-home date nights!

Setting aside time each week dedicated explicitly towards spiritual growth keeps both spouses focused on serving God first, which will eventually make them stronger not only in their relationship with Him but also among themselves since everything else follows after loving Him above all else (Mathew 6:33). By doing so it would be easier to stick around core values of Christianity while facing everyday challenges of our routine lives and creating better connections inside families.

But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well.

Matthew 6:33 (WEB)

Developing an Ideal Christian Marriage: Biblical Insights

Seeking an ideal Christian married life is an excellent goal for couples to pursue. To help you achieve this, the Bible offers plenty of advice on how to be and act like a good Christian wife; these principles can also be applied to marriages between all kinds of couples. Faith in God is particularly significant in achieving such goals: unwavering belief in Him and His teachings will strengthen your marriage when hardships arise. Do you believe He’ll guide both partners through whatever issues arise?

Believing in God can make it much easier for couples to maintain a special bond and stay together. Besides that, good communication between partners is vital, too – talking about worries openly will help both of you sort out any troubles before they get out of hand. It’s essential to have this kind of conversation whenever necessary to keep the relationship healthy and strong!

If communication begins to deteriorate, it is essential that a couple takes some time away from their daily lives and puts their energies into discussing the issues in question without resorting to criticism or accusations. Both sides should strive towards understanding each other’s perspectives. Furthermore, partners within marriage must remain devoted throughout the entirety of their relationship, meaning they have to get rid of any bad habits like speaking ill about one another when apart and also refrain from harmful activities such as shouting at one another during arguments, which should never occur if genuine love exists between them!

Remember why you fell in love with each other- take some time off for date night or special occasions. These quality moments can bring back the spark just like when everything started! Prayer should be an integral part of your daily life as a couple – praying together will not only strengthen your spiritual connection but also help you emotionally connect since it allows couples to discuss what they are really feeling without any fear or shame; no one else has access apart from God himself! Adding prayer into your routine is beneficial as couples have countless prayers answered by The Almighty’s grace, and these blessings must be celebrated happily throughout.

Nurturing Faith and Spirituality Within Your Matrimony

Being a good Christian wife requires nurturing your faith and spirituality in the marriage. It’s essential to recognize yourself first, understanding how you relate with God: this will help foster stronger spiritual connections while in wedlock. Setting aside time each day for prayer, Bible study, or any other form of activity inspired by God is paramount if one wants to remain faithful to His word. Taking part in these activities can provide an overall sense of groundedness that goes beyond what words could express – it helps bring us closer with our Heavenly Father and guide us through life as better wives!

Having regular devotional times together is really important for couples. It can help them to build a strong sense of unity based on their shared faith. Plus, if you want your marriage to include the matrimony of two harmonious beliefs, it’s pivotal that everyday love and forgiveness are practiced within the relationship as much as possible. Considering this journey involves two inherently unique individuals – even during conflicts or moments when someone may feel wronged by their partner – respect must also be paramount!

Couples must keep loving patience, understanding, humility, and forgiveness at the forefront of their relationship to nurture it spiritually. This spiritual walk with Christ can also help us become more aware of our behaviors and choices individually and within a couple’s context. It goes without saying that if married Christian men and women talk about faith, they should actively live out those values through service acts. Whether it be helping organize VBS events, for example, or volunteering time amongst other ministries within the church, attending bible studies outside one’s home circle might prove beneficial, too! Visiting hospitals/nursing homes regularly could provide an opportunity for couples to pray together over specific issues during conversations, which ultimately draws them closer while staying focused on biblical principles, thereby maintaining unity within matrimony while tending towards individual personal growth.

Essential Traits of a Good Christian Wife

Faith in Lord Jesus and living according to the Bible is the cornerstone of being a good Christian wife. A true role model for her family, friends, and strangers – she should make an example out of herself through obedience, respectfulness, compassion, and kindness.

Furthermore, by humbly serving others, a godly wife must embody certain qualities like patience when troubles occur and an understanding that mistakes or wrongs can be forgiven.

As a Christian wife, she must put God at the forefront. This does not mean disrespecting her husband and his wishes or opinions; instead, showing respect while still putting God first. Marriage requires both spouses to be equally committed to survive any trials they face along their journey together. Furthermore, humility plays an important role: understanding that God will always remain in control no matter what happens during life or marriage.

Being a good Christian wife is all about being willing to take advice from God’s word and other believers and learning how to respectfully handle disagreements without giving up on your beliefs. It also requires faithfulness in the marriage – both physically and emotionally – to enjoy genuine intimacy without caring about what others think. Connecting spiritually should come next: regularly attend church services together with your spouse and spend time reading scriptures daily; this will help you grow closer in faith while embracing Jesus’s teachings at the same time and applying them to day-to-day life.

How To Cultivate Love and Respect in a Godly Marriage

One of the essential parts of a successful marriage is to develop love and respect between husband and wife. So, as good Christian wives, we should follow Jesus Christ’s teachings in our daily lives individually and with spouses. In the Bible, many references exist about how husbands should treat their wives – lovingly, patient, kind, and understanding.

If you want to make your Godly marriage thrive, it’s essential to put effort towards loving and respecting one another throughout everyday life. You should honor your husband’s opinions and forgive his mistakes; communication is especially important, too; discussing feelings and needs can help you strengthen your connection. It’s also vital for both partners in a relationship to grow spiritually together by taking time out from all busy life stuff like work or family obligations so that you can spend quality time with each other. Doing this will keep romance alive even when everyday duties seem overwhelming.

Respect is just as important to foster in marriage as love is; it’s the bedrock on which mutual trust can be built. Respect can be demonstrated through consistent, uplifting words that show your spouse’s worth, things like expressing gratitude for their hard work or simply complimenting them on something they’ve done well recently – whether it relates to career or home life. Respect involves listening when your partner has something important that they want you to hear without interruption and a non-judgmental attitude: offer support where needed while leaving plenty of room for them to freely share their thoughts without fear of being judged harshly if their opinion differs from yours. Showing respect doesn’t mean automatically agreeing with everything your significant other says but instead making an effort to understand his perspective, not forcing your own viewpoint, nor belittling his beliefs directly or indirectly by actions such as rolling eyes during conversation, multitasking while communicating, or exhibiting other disrespectful body language, etc..”

Overcoming Challenges in Christian Marriages With Faith and Patience

One of the biggest obstacles in a Christian marriage is having faith and patience. Having unwavering trust in God and His sayings and tolerance of each other is essential for an ideal partnership to work out right. As a virtuous Christian wife, you must take up your responsibility by telling yourself daily that you must be devoted to your husband no matter how tough times or uncertain the future feels. You mustn’t forget that He always promised support during challenging moments, so never lose motivation or give up on your marital relationship entirely.

It can be challenging for a wife to stay patient with her husband’s mistakes and shortcomings. Nevertheless, by showing patience, she respects him and loves God. Demonstrating patience also gives couples an opportunity to work through their problems without resorting to arguments or any other damaging behavior that could hurt the relationship even more. Additionally, having confidence in God’s strategy will keep a couple emphasizing the positive elements of their connection rather than getting stuck on adverse ones. Do you ever feel like your marriage isn’t what it used to be? How do you think faith in God plays into this?

Being a good Christian wife requires commitment and dedication to your spouse and God’s will. This means forgiving each other when you make mistakes and understanding that everyone has moments of imperfection. Still, it doesn’t define your relationship if both partners are willing to work through it with faith in mind. Furthermore, even during difficult times, we must remember that nothing is impossible for those with God by their side, so don’t give up! Prayer can be a valuable tool against many relationship struggles today; taking time out each day for prayer together can help couples stay connected spiritually while providing space mentally/emotionally where necessary (although this should not become an excuse for neglect). Lastly, participating in bible studies or retreats could benefit couples looking to strengthen their union while developing trust in one another religious paths, too!

As a Christian wife, it’s essential to remember that your marriage is an intimate connection with God. To have a blessed union as husband and wife, one should prioritize being devoted to each other, living out the teachings of the Bible without compromising its values, and nurturing mutual respect within the relationship. Committing yourself to these measures can help build strong ties between you two that are unbreakable even if tough times come along life’s way. Have faith — do this, and surely you’ll stand firm together through thick or thin!

Bible Verses To Inspire Christian Women

As a Godly woman in a good marriage, you'll benefit greatly from prioritizing scripture in your free time. There are a few bible verses specifically helpful to married women.

Whoever finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor of Yahweh.

Proverbs 18:22 (WEB)

This means YOU are a treasure, a reward for your husband, even if you don't feel worthy.

A worthy woman is the crown of her husband, but a disgraceful wife is as rottenness in his bones.

Proverbs 12:4 (WEB)

You are a treasure to your family and one of the most valued treasures a family could ask for. Even when you feel you're not enough, you are the crown.

In the same way, wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; so that, even if any don’t obey the Word, they may be won by the behavior of their wives without a word, seeing your pure behavior in fear.

1 Peter 3:1-2 (WEB)

How amazing it is to work as a team with your husband. Allowing him to take the burden of providing for the family so you can focus on teaching, keeping the home, and providing the extremely important tasks of being your husband's emotional and physical support system. Living each day out of true love.

Having been down a very independent path in my 20s, my life today, focused on my family and the Lord, is truly liberating. I pray you feel the same or open your mind to considering and contemplating the biblical meaning of living in submission to your husband.

Let your beauty be not just the outward adorning of braiding the hair, and of wearing jewels of gold, or of putting on fine clothing; 4 but in the hidden person of the heart, in the incorruptible adornment of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God. For this is how in the past, the holy women who hoped in God also adorned themselves, being in subjection to their own husbands. So Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, whose children you now are, if you do well, and are not put in fear by any terror.

1 Peter 3:3-6 (WEB)

Most Christian women I've met (including myself) have had pasts with following fashion trends, wearing makeup, having complicated clothing habits, etc. 1 Peter 3-6 really gave me permission to walk away from that mindset and care, plus I gained more confidence. There is a powerful mindset shift when you let go of worldly expectations and seek God first, realizing all the “stuff” the world is obsessed with is just a compilation of meaningless distractions.

I will greatly rejoice in Yahweh! My soul will be joyful in my God, for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation. He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

Isaiah 51:10 (WEB)

Isaiah is easily my favorite Old Testament book, and it pairs beautifully with 1 Peter 3:1-6. The one characteristic of a Godly woman I've enjoyed pursuing the most is simplicity and rewiring my personal expectations. Strengthening my faith has given me more confidence, purpose, excitement, and peace compared to any adventure I've ever been on. I feel better clothed in handmade garments pieced together from budget fabrics than I ever did looking like a princess wearing jeweled gowns with my hair done up at the military balls I've attended.

Let all that you do be done in love.

1 Corinthians 16:14 (WEB)

Quick Reference of a Wife's Responsibilities

If you're looking for scripture-based references to what a good Christian woman should be, read through Proverbs 31. A wife's responsibilities are to:

  • understand her marriage vows fully and continually follow God's wisdom, even when lacking understanding.
  • love her husband [unconditionally, even when going through a hard time]
  • remain trustworthy
  • embody a quiet spirit (don't criticize or speak harshly)
  • never lose sight of God
  • “be clothed in strength and dignity”
  • always use Christ as a role model in how to treat others, including your family
  • recognize your family is your primary responsibility
  • be your husband's best friend
