Adopting simple daily habits makes a big difference in your overall health.

While you should strive to eat healthily, taking a few vitamins and supplements each day may optimize your health. Supplements you should consider specifically for holistic health care are used for preventative health, where you support your body's immune system and detox pathways to prevent imbalances that lead to illness.

Supplements that make your immune system stronger include:
- Vitamin C
Using Natural Products (Cleaners and Personal Care)
Honor your body by committing to using natural and/or organic products, especially those you use to clean your home or apply on your skin or hair.
Some excellent companies provide more natural options than you'll find in most stores, allowing you to avoid things like chemicals, dyes, sulfates, parabens, PFAS, and animal testing.
With all the harmful synthetic chemicals used in everyday products causing neurological, reproductive, and developmental problems, organ toxicity, and cancer, it is essential to understand how to read your labels and make informed decisions. There is no justifiable reason to pay a corporation to make you sick just because they prioritize profits over your well-being.
There are also countless DIY instructions online to create your own herbal infusions, cleaners, laundry soaps, skincare, and hair care products.
Drink Tea Instead of Coffee
An effortless switch you can make in the morning is to drink herbal tea instead of coffee. Most tea has a small amount of caffeine but less than coffee or energy drinks.
By switching to tea, you will prevent the caffeine crash that is common a few hours after drinking coffee, plus you'll also receive the added benefits of natural herbs in tea.
Not to mention, if you enjoy adding sugar and cream to your coffee, you'll be able to reduce your sugar and other additive intakes by switching to tea.
Types of Caffeinated Tea Include:
- Green tea (or Matcha)

Of course, if you don't want caffeine, consider rooibos, chamomile, peppermint tea, or other herbal tea blends.
Eat Healthy Meals
Another significant aspect of your holistic health routine is ingesting more nutrition. This can be done simply by eating healthier and/or juicing.
If you need to, change your diet to primarily include foods in their whole, natural form, including vegetables, fruits, ancient grains (Einkorn or Sorgum are ideal), seeds, nuts, and sustainably grown meats. When choosing meat or seafood to eat, seek out humanely raised and organic (bonus if you can buy directly from a local farmer or homesteader). And, of course, reduce or eliminate processed or prepackaged foods as much as possible.
Word of warning… stay away from eating insects. Numerous studies now prove that eating insects significantly increases your risk of contracting parasites, including potentially fatal ones.
Every family will have different requirements based on the individual body needs, but for my family, adopting healthier eating habits started with following Paleo diet guidelines. We had such great results with my autoimmune healing journey by switching to Paleo that I often recommend it in my health coaching. If you're unfamiliar with Paleo eating guidelines, think of it as veggies with a side of meat.
Since my healing journey, we've brought some grains back into our diet, primarily focusing on Sorgum and Einkorn because of their low glycemic levels and proven health benefits. Einkorn is lovely for making sourdough and has a very similar texture to the usual hybridized wheat our culture has grown accustomed to.

While maintaining healthy eating habits and avoiding avoidable toxins are extremely important, we do live in a very polluted world. Periodically cleansing your colon, parasites, and liver is the critical missing health link most people don't think about.
Colon Cleansing Ideas
Cleansing your colon can be as easy as doing a salt water flush with 2 teaspoons of sea salt and 2 tablespoons of lemon juice in a cup of hot water.
Or it can be a bit more complicated by using a “lemonade bomb” with a cup of hot water, 1/2 tablespoons of honey, 1/4 cup of lemon juice, and a pinch each of cayenne pepper, ground ginger, and ground tumeric.
Coffee enemas are also fantastic for cleansing your colon.
Parasite Cleanse Ideas
There are many ways to do a parasite cleanse.
- Drinking a warm cup of water with a teaspoon of food grade diatomaceous earth each morning for a couple weeks.
- Black seed oil
- Pumpkin seeds
- Taking antiparasitic medication
- Or just ingesting antiparasitic herbs as part of your healthy eating habits, such as garlic, oregano, onions, and ginger
- Ditching prepackaged foods and sugar, and switching your eating habits to Paleo or similar diets.
Liver Cleanse Ideas
Cleansing your liver is very simple too, and has incredible effects with helping your body detox.
- Make a herbal tea to support your liver: add 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg and ginger with 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon into a tea infuser. Let simmer in hot water for 20 minutes.
- Drink homemade cranberry juice
- Combine the juice from 3 oranges and 3 lemons. If you'd like it sweeter, add in some honey, agave syrup, or your favorite natural sweetener.
Create a Fitness Plan
When you participate in regular physical activity, you increase your physical strength, mental wellness, (and also your mental wellness), endurance, and energy levels. Regular exercise helps to improve your cardiovascular system, nervous system, mental health, and overall longevity. It's a cornerstone in staying healthy.
The great thing about customizing your own fitness plan is you don't need to spend hours at the gym. You can workout at home with help from a Total Gym, small weight set, resistance bands, jump rope, or just taking your kids or pets for a walk, hike, or jog.
You could take a short 15-minute walk, do an hour of cycling each week, or spend 30 minutes working out at the gym. You pick the activities that you enjoy and that make you feel good.
Once you notice the difference in your physical appearance and increased capabilities, you also begin to feel better about your looks and more appreciative of the body God gave you. That's when your confidence will soar through the roof.
Drink More Water
Drinking water has many benefits, including:
- Improving your blood's efficiency in carrying nutrients and oxygen to your cells
- Aiding your body in regulating body temperature
- Flushing bacteria from your kidneys and bladder
- Improving digestion
- Preventing constipation
- Supporting your joints, organs, and body tissues
If you don't drink enough water daily, you risk dehydration, which causes weakness, low blood pressure, dizziness, confusion, or dark-colored urine.
How much water you should drink depends on your body size and physical activity levels. Ideally, you should drink about half your body weight in ounces. For example, if you weigh 140 lbs, you should drink a minimum of 70 ounces of water. However, you'll need more water on days you're more active, experiencing hotter weather, or if your body needs extra support. Every day might look a little different when it comes to drinking water.
The biggest key to understand with drinking water is to not replace it with juice, tea, coffee, or any other drink. Drinks other than water should be in addition to the water intake your body requires.
Healthier Daily Routine Ideas To Support Your Mental Health
Supporting your mind is critical because when your mind is out of sorts, your stress levels increase. When you are overly stressed, your body has more difficulty functioning physically, and you open yourself to spiritual disturbances. Thankfully, you can add a few holistic habits to your routine to support your mind, including your emotional and mental health.
Ideas of what to add to your mental health holistic support routine include journaling, taking a detox bath, and aromatherapy.
Write in a Journal To Improve Mental Health
Writing down your thoughts and feelings is highly beneficial. This can be a therapeutic experience that can be quickly done in just 5 minutes.
Some quick things to remember when you're journaling:
There are no rules – Write as much or as little as you want, use whichever notebook you have on hand, and don't worry about perfecting your spelling or grammar. You're not writing a book or expose; if you choose to use your journals as a book in the future, you'll have plenty of time to correct spelling or grammatical errors during the rewriting or editing phases.
Try different journaling methods: There are various journaling methods, including prompts, brain dumps, stream of consciousness, bullet journaling, and daily diary-type journaling. Feel welcome to experiment with what works best.
Express gratitude: Each time you write in your journal, challenge yourself to write a few things you are grateful for.
Take an Epsom Salt Bath
Yes! While a detox bath is excellent for your body, it also has several mental and emotional health benefits.
Epsom salt benefits are incredible for releasing toxins from the body, but they also positively affect your mind and help to destress. After just one bath, you feel rejuvenated, with less anxiety.
Many people feel more relaxed and calmer mentally with at least one Epsom salt bath a week in their routine.

Breathwork is a term for breathing exercises that can also be very therapeutic, helping heal past traumas, reduce stress, and calm your mind and soul.
When you're feeling anxious or in the evenings or mornings, settle in somewhere comfortable, and breathe deeply for a few minutes. Inhale for 10 seconds. Exhale for 10 seconds.
Breathwork will help you breathe deeper, calm your nerves, and give you extra oxygen.

Essential oils are a great way to improve your mental health and nurture your mind.
Essential oils are fragrant lipids extracted from plants that contain many benefits to support your overall wellness. Numerous studies show that inhaling plant aromas such as lemon or rosemary can improve your focus, concentration, memory, and energy levels while soothing your body's stress response.
There are several ways to integrate essential oils into your daily routine, including diffusing, adding oils to your bath, or applying a diluted blend to your skin.

Eventually, you can switch to only drinking water in the mornings if you prefer (this is what I do now, and I feel much more energetic throughout the day than previously).
Spending time in nature: Spending some time outside in the morning is an easy way to alter your daily routine. After you go through your basic morning hygiene practices, bring your cup of water or tea to your patio or balcony to enjoy the fresh air. This is a great way to journal, read, or prepare for the rest of the day.
Add Holistic Habits to Your Evening Routine
Some holistic habits happen to fit in better in the evenings, providing more benefits when doing them at night, including restorative baths, journaling, prayer, Bible study, or breathwork.
Excellent Holistic Habits To Add to Your Morning Routine
Journaling: You can definitely journal in the morning as well, but morning routines get busy, especially if you're not an early riser, so if the morning doesn't work for you, save it for the evening.
Restorative or detox bath: Enjoy a relaxing evening bath as you get ready for bed. This can be with Epsom salts, bentonite clay, magnesium flakes, baking soda, or a combination of them, with or without essential oils, for a relaxing fragrance.
Breathwork: Lastly, if you endure a lot of anxiety, doing breathwork in the evening can also be really calming for you before bed. Focus on counting to 10 while you breathe in and the same as you breathe out.
Improve Your Health by Getting Enough Restful Sleep
Sleep is very important, as this is the time your body maximizes its healing abilities. Sleep is also when children transition their newly learned information to long-term memory, and is when their bodies grow the most.
- Avoid alcohol
- Avoid drugs, nicotiene, or other chemicals
- Skip caffinated drinks within 6 hours prior to bedtime
- Establish a relaxing evening routine
- Turn off the TV or other electronic devices within an hour of going to sleep
- Swap your LED or flourescant light bulbs for the conventional incandescent options (this helps you avoid blue light and disruptive light bulb flickers)
- Give your feet and neck a relaxing massage using a natural lotion or essential oils diluted with a carrier oil
Building Stronger Relationships May Improve Your Health
Did you know? Connecting with others may reduce your risks of dimentia.
Dozens of studies also show that those who have a strong support system (especially within their community) are happier, endure fewer health problems, and live longer.
Good relationships don't need years to build. They can form in months, weeks, days, or even hours. Connecting with others doesn't necessarily mean making a new best friend.
Talking to neighbors or church members can positively impact your mental health by listening, empathizing, building trust, contributing to the conversation, and building a stronger sense of self-worth and value.
If you haven't seen a friend recently (or if you have), reach out to arrange a lunch date to get together and catch up. Or, if they're far away, send a handwritten letter or organize a virtual lunch date.
How about your children or other family members? Why not try to set an hour during the day when you spend time together talking or playing games?
Texting and chatting regularly is suitable, especially with friends and loved ones who live too far away to schedule a meetup. Just make sure technology isn't replacing your in-person communications with people.
Learn a New Skill
Surprisingly, learning a new skill or hobby significantly and positively impacts your mental health. It's an excellent way to meet new people, indulge in your God-given creativity, and improve your confidence.
Having a sense of purpose and hobby other than your career is excellent, giving you something to look forward to each day.
Unfortunately, many complain they don't have enough time to take on extra projects. Luckily, though, technology has made learning more accessible.
Streamline Learning and Developing a New Skill
There are a few ways you can make learning a new skill easier and faster:
• Sign up for an online course for something you're interested in learning
• Look for free video tutorials online to help you with a DIY project (YouTube, Bitchute, Rumble, and Odessy are great places to search).
• If you enjoy cooking or baking, find healthy recipes and learn how to make them (Vanessa from Clean Eating with A Dirty Mind is one of my favorite resources for clever, healthy recipe ideas)
• Try a new hobby that challenges and entertains you, like painting, writing, needlepoint, knitting, crocheting, or gardening
• Learn to play a new sport or physical activity
Another idea would be to take a hobby you already have and alter it slightly to make it more streamlined.
For example, my grandmother taught me to knit, and I love to. Still, I have yet to knit like I used to because I lacked time and patience while homeschooling and managing all my family's needs. So instead of knitting with regular needles, I picked up a portable knitting loom and learned a new method of knitting.
Make Learning a New Skill More Social
I absolutely love what Kat is doing over at Veteran Spouse Network with the Craft Me Crazy program. Craft Me Crazy aims to build community while getting your projects done.
You can do something similar too, whether virtual or in person. Get some friends together with what you're learning, and either work on a craft while you talk or learn something new as a group. This will help you develop a new skill while also engaging in meaningful conversations.
Give Generously to People in Need
According to research, you can improve your mental well-being by participating in acts of kindness and giving.
When we help others, our brains release a ‘feel-good' hormone called oxytocin, which fosters more profound empathy and trust. It also makes you feel calmer, happier, and inspired to do more.
Giving to others could be volunteering at a local shelter or helping out someone on a personal level. The point is to offer your time and energy to do something for others. In return, you'll feel good about yourself, knowing you're valued and appreciated.
Holistic Approach To Supporting Your Spirit
Holistic practices for your soul encompass your body and mind, physical and mental health, and working on your spiritual side. Deepening your relationship with God is the final and most often overlooked piece of the puzzle for maximizing your overall wellness. The holistic habits for your spirit include:
- Deepening your connection with God
- Having faith like a child
- Being mindful
Deepen Your Connection With God
Whether you're listening to Christian podcasts, engaging in regular Bible study, contemplating scripture, or journaling your revelations when reading through God's word, connecting with Him is critical for overall wellness.
In addition to connecting with God on a deeper level and building a more solid connection with Him, you must have faith like a child.
Be More Mindful of Your Environment (Inside and Outside)
Be mindful, but not in the ordinary mindfulness meaning that has taken the internet by storm in recent years, where you're focused on living in the moment.
Be mindful of your actions and what you're eating, reading, watching, and thinking about.
Being conscious of what you're exposing yourself to ensures you're not poisoning your mind and spirit.
Keep scripture on your mind, making time for it every day and contemplating it during the day.
Spend More Time in Nature
Like other holistic habits, being outside more in nature helps your spirit, body, and mind. Spending time outdoors is a therapeutic activity that costs nothing and doesn't need to take an extended amount of time.
Get outside in any capacity, whether sitting on your patio or balcony while you journal or sip a cup of coffee or tea, tending to your garden, or hiking through a nearby park.
The more time you spend outside surrounded by nature, the more you'll feel more connected to God's creations and understand how much He benefits you.

Adopting healthier daily routines by creating holistic habits doesn't mean you must be perfect. But through consistency, you'll develop a routine that feels right for you, reduces your stress, improves your health, and improves your relationships. It's definitely a worthy goal to work towards achieving little steps at a time.

My Experience Adopting a Healthier Daily Routine
I started by cleaning up my diet. After just a month of Paleo cooking made from home-grown produce and organic meats, my seizures decreased from 6 per day to an average of 2 per week!
After seeing how much food impacted my quality of life, I started analyzing all our household products (cleaners, laundry supplies, skincare, hair care, dental care, and room fragrances), swapping them out for safe, natural alternatives.
90 days into my journey to wellness, all my autoimmune and neurological symptoms stopped flaring. This process significantly improved my faith, inspiring me to improve my relationship with God.
From there, everything else fell into place, naturally.

Simple little lifestyle changes add up to some major impacts on your health and longevity. When you live healthier, your quality of life improves substantially. Explain why you choose water over juice, why you avoid soda and sugary snacks, or why you limit your time looking at the TV, devices, or computer screens. Share with your siblings, friends, and parents the benefits you're feeling from learning new things, getting closer to God, or cleaning up your food choices.
